Evenings for Educators

Evenings for Educators is a professional development program that presents K-12 teachers with opportunities to look, learn, create, and connect with colleagues. Focusing on LACMA's collection and special exhibitions, programs present strategies to incorporate the visual arts into the classroom with activities that explore the artistic process, approach works of art as primary sources, and emphasize parallels between the visual arts and core content areas.

Educators attend lectures by a museum curator or scholar as well as participate in gallery tours, discussions, and artist-led workshops. Teachers also receive curriculum materials containing thematic essays, art images, discussion questions, lesson plans, and related resources. All programs are interdisciplinary and are developed to meet the California state content standards.

Creativity in (and out of) the Classroom | February 9, 2016 | 4:30–8:30 pm
How often do we hear the phrase ‘think outside of the box?’ What does it mean? Why do we need a box? Identified as one of the most crucial skills students need to succeed in work, life and citizenship, creativity may be seen as composed of three basic parts: thinking creatively, working creatively with others, and implementing innovations. Explore all three aspects so you can encourage students to use the creative process and the elements crucial to creativity both in and outside of the classroom.

Follow the fascinating evolution of men’s clothing as a reflection of historical events, culture, and self-expression. Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear, 1715-2015 will explore the history of menswear from the eighteenth century to the present. Re-examining conventional gender norms and the all-too-frequent equation of “fashion” with “femininity,” Reigning Men will reveal that the conservative conformist man in the gray flannel suit is a recent and overly simplistic stereotype.
